For me, O-Week was an opportunity to see exactly what the real college experience at ICMS was going to be like.
It all started with the registration day. I walked in to the beautiful college grounds to be greeted and led up to the Great Hall to register.
The line to register was quite long, but this turned out to be a good thing as it gave me my first opportunity to meet the people I would be spending the next three years with. Everyone I encountered in this process was so friendly and helpful with all the questions I needed answered. The registration process itself was over before I knew it!
Later I went on a college tour, which allowed me to familiarize myself with the college before the start of term. When this was finished, I made my way over to the chapel with a few friends (new and old) for a talk on professional conduct. Knowing that the professional standards of the college were important to uphold (in particular dress code) this was a great chance for all of us to hear what was expected; this way we would blend in better with all the other students and not stand out too much as the ‘newbie’s’.
My next event in O-Week, and one of my favourites, was the Welcome Ceremony and Cocktail Evening. All new students and their families were invited to the chapel to celebrate the start of our university lives. The ceremony was really nice with the flags from each nation that is present within the college being presented and all of us being warmly welcomed into the college community.
My last event of O-Week experience was Commencement Day. Students, both new and old, made their way up to the headland for a day of fun. With a waterslide, yoga class and electronic bull ride this was a day to loosen the ties, take off the heels and have fun!
