Mexican graduate in the city PDF E-mail

Valentina Gonzales has achieved her dream career at the sumptuous W Hotel in the city that never sleeps.

After graduating from a Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management, Valentina entered the graduate training program in New York with the W Hotel. She is now the Guest Relations Manager.

“I chose a career in the hospitality industry due to the interest developed when living in different countries from an early age,” explains Valentina.

“My mother was a diplomat and took our family along on her continuous travels throughout the world. This is when I developed a great `homely´ love and interest in the peculiar world of hotels.”

Valentina’s passion for living and interacting with people from diverse cultures attracted her to study at Macquarie’s partner college, the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) located in Manly.

“As an international college, ICMS integrated students from more than 80 different countries. It was a priority to continue developing a sense of multiculturalism, which has now become an essential asset in the success of my hospitality career,” says Valentina.

Another valuable aspect of her education at ICMS was her industry training at the W Hotel Sydney in the Food and Beverage department in 2004.

“The educational program is a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The practical experience was enhanced by my nine month period of industry training, where I had an opportunity to discover my potential, strengths and weaknesses.”

Valentina’s days are a hectic schedule of often 11 hour shifts then enjoying the colourful nightlife New York has to offer. She also has clear career goals she wishes to pursue in the future. “My short term goal is to become a Sales Manager for the W Hotel, either in New York or Barcelona by the year 2010. My long term career goal is to start my own boutique backpacker hotel chain throughout Mexico.”
