Purpose
At the end of each term, students who have demonstrated academic excellence will be recognised through placement on the Dean’s List. The Dean’s List is announced by the Executive Dean during Week 3 of the subsequent term.
The Dean’s List comprises the single highest ranked student (as measured by the GPA for the term in question - not the cumulative GPA) in each Term of every specialisation. For example, the highest achiever in Term 1 Hospitality; in Term 2 Events; in Term 5 Tourism, and so on. It is compiled at the end of every term once examination results have been released. Where two or more students have the same GPA, the highest ranked student will be determined by calculating the Weighted Average Mark (WAM). The student with the highest WAM in a term will be included on the Dean's List.
A Dean’s List student may request a “Dean’s List” reference from the Dean on graduation.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a place on the Dean’s List, a student must:
- Achieve a minimum GPA of 3.7
- Be enrolled full-time in a minimum of 4 subjects (Diploma and ADE); or a minimum of 3 subjects for Term 7, 8 and 9.
- Have achieved the highest Grade Point Average of their cohort for the term in question. For example, Student X, enrolled full time in Term 1 Hospitality in February 2008 achieved a CGPA of 3.85, ranking them first among the Term 1 Hosp students for that term.
- Where two or more students have the same GPA, the highest ranked student will be determined by calculating the Weighted Average Mark (WAM). The student with the highest WAM is the highest performing student.
Procedure
1. Every term, when examination results are available, the Registrar’s Office will prepare lists of students in every Term of each specialisation*. The lists shall be in descending order of Grade Point Average, from highest to lowest.
2. Subject to the achievement of at least the minimum GPA of 3.7, and the approval of the Academic Senate (which approval may be delegated to the Dean if required), the highest ranked student in each cohort will be placed on the Dean’s List.
3. Once the list is finalised, information will be provided to Dean’s Office and Certificates will be prepared for presentation to the students at the College Awards Ceremony in the subsequent term.
* Specialisations: Event Management; Hospitality Management; International Tourism; Property Management; Retail Management; Sport Management, Business Management.
Note: - Only students with a GPA of 3.7 or higher are considered - “part time” students are not eligible for inclusion on the Dean’s List because of their lower study load - Students who cannot attend the Awards Ceremony will receive their certificates by post.
