ICMS Student featured on Primetime Channel 9 show

International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) student Riley Cadman has shown the world how he overcame his stutter and found his voice as part of Australia’s primetime Network 9 show ‘This Time Next Year’.

Cadman, featured in an episode filmed at ICMS Main Campus in Northern Beaches, NSW, Sydney, delivered an inspiring speech during the career-focused college’s O-Week celebrations earlier this year.

The Channel 9 episode formed part of the second series of the show, which has a reach of 1.5 million Australians, a digital reach of 300 000 and which is sold internationally. The show follows people who want to transform their lives by pledging to achieve a goal between Feb 2018 and Feb 2019.

This is an inspirational, heart-felt series where goals can be anything from wanting to find a birth parent, to accomplishing a physical feat or achieving a lifelong dream. The aim of the series is to inspire other people to set goals and chase their dreams, facing and overcoming challenges or adversity along the way.

The ‘This Time Next Year’ episode featuring Cadman was about him finding his voice as he completes his pledge: delivering a speech at a university.

The speech, given at the ICMS Welcome Ceremony, demonstrates clearly how Cadman has overcome a debilitating stutter through his work at the McGuire Centre, a programme designed to help stutterers. He has since gone on to become a McGuire coach.

Cadman, an ICMS Bachelor of Property Management student, member of the SRC and ICMS Surf Club President, paid tribute to the award-winning higher education institution and spoke of how the college encouraged him to never give up. He, in turn, encouraged the audience to get involved in the student community as he has done.

“We at ICMS are all about helping the individual achieve their goals and overcome the challenges ahead. We are extremely proud of Riley for his strength of character and bravery shown in the delivery of his inspiring speech and thank Channel 9 for giving his story the reach that a prime time show naturally will,” ICMS CEO and President Professor Dominic Szambowski said.

“We know Riley will go on to great things, not only because of the solid grounding he has received here at ICMS, but because of his perseverance in taking on his ‘This Time Next Year’ pledge and knocking it out of the park. Well done, Riley!”
