Northern Beaches resident Hanna Clare has hit the ground running in her first year of an International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) degree while continuing her work at Surf Life Saving NSW and with the NSW Rugby League.
While she may be a new student, Clare is a familiar face in Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW, where ICMS’ main campus is based due to her work in the media as a Sports & Entertainment Presenter for Surf Life Saving NSW and the National Rugby League (NRL).
She was also in the media last year in coverage of a campaign she spearheaded while still a student. The high school student-led campaign aimed to bring HSC students’ concerns around how Covid-19 regulations impacted students in their final year of school.
She has also hosted pre-presentation interviews at events such as the 2019 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence.
I currently work at NSW Rugby League in the Major and Pathway Competitors Team. I am fortunate to deal with key stakeholders such as NRL Clubs on a daily basis, providing support across their Junior Representative Programs. I also hold a position at Surf Life Saving NSW in their State Operations Centre, for the clubbies reading Surfcom! Daily, I manage communications to lifeguards and volunteer patrols via radio. I additionally provide support to our emergency services counterparts by assisting in the facilitation of a response to coastal emergencies across NSW,”Clare said.
“You know you are in the right industry when you don’t have to set an alarm for work because you can’t wait for the day ahead. Working with passionate staff and volunteers with the collective goal of providing the best support to athletes beyond the footy posts is the greatest job of all! ”While her work experience stands Clare in good stead for her future career, she is looking forward to the ICMS Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program where she will gain industry training that is built into, and will complement, her degree.
“I can’t wait to complete industry training, how exciting to be able to practically apply our wealth of knowledge gained inside ‘the castle on the hill’. I look forward to completing my industry training in an environment that will be conducive to career development whilst being challenging and rewarding.”
Clare’s passion and ambition makes her a good fit for the dynamic, career-focused higher education institute in which she has chosen to start her journey towards ultimately running her own business focusing on athlete wellness. “In 10 years’ time I hope to see Hanna Clare running a successful Athlete Management Business in the UK with a focus on holistic athlete wellbeing,” Clare said. “Studying at ICMS has given me a holistic in-depth overview of business operations. The international friendships built thus far will enhance my global outreach and professional relationships throughout and at the conclusion of my degree. ICMS has revitalised my outlook on education…it is all about learning by doing.”
