Why did you choose to study at ICMS?
I wanted to study business and hospitality, and after extensive research discovering Australia’s top institutions providing this, I chose ICMS. The major factors which attracted me to ICMS were the 9 months industry training, practical subjects, small classes and the boarding lifestyle.
Why did you choose to study your particular course?
I have been working on events since the age of three and realised that I enjoyed the whole experience and skills learnt from working on events, more than hospitality.
How would you describe the teaching staff at ICMS?
I liked how the lecturers are current industry practitioners in their field with extensive experience. They have supported me throughout my degree assisting with particular subjects, the industry training process, gaining outside ICMS volunteer/work opportunities as well as providing guidance on my five-year plan. They are there to support you all the way.
Have you undertaken practical experience during your degree?
For my Event Practicum class, I planned, managed and executed the 19th Annual Jesuit Mission Golf Day, whilst also event planning and managing The Bear Cottage Celebrity Chef Dinner. I have also been involved in organising SRC events such as Icebreaker, Feel the Bass, Friday the 13th, Weekly activities, Oktoberfest, End of Term.
What do you enjoy about your course?
The industry training has been an amazing opportunity to make life-long contacts, live and learn at Walt Disney World, Florida, USA. I also enjoy having the Study Abroad students as part of my classes – they are very fun and provide a unique perspective on Business/Events/Hospitality/etc. education in other countries.
What are your plans for when you complete your degree?
I have about six separate five-year plans, each is very exciting! I would like to work as a Senior Event Coordinator in world-renowned event entertainment company.
What was your role?
Attractions, Food and Beverage Attendant
Walt Disney World Resort, Florida – January to June 2013
What did you learn in your role?
Many life lessons as well as practical work-related skills; including the confidence to command a crowd, operate ride machinery and cater to the individual needs of each guest keeping to Disney’s four keys of safety, courtesy, show and efficiency.
How has the industry training experience helped your career?
It has provided me with a solid work experience platform, working with companies such as Novotel after I returned from America. Disney’s emphasis on customer service and attention to detail has stayed with me.
Getting to ICMS
How do you get to ICMS for classes?
I live on campus so it takes 15 minutes to roll out of bed and walk downstairs to breakfast and classes.
Why did you choose to live on campus?
I wanted to get involved as much as possible at ICMS. Boarding allowed me to meet people faster, not just people I have classes with. It is also incredibly convenient for Club meetings and class group meetings.
Was it easy to make new friends and what was your experience?
Yes, through joining SRC Events Team, Rotaract and Fire Wardens. As well as attending ICMS parties, making an effort and boarding made the process even easier.

What advice would you give to someone considering study at ICMS?
It is a really nice tight-knit community offering expert theoretical and practical experiences. It all comes down to ‘you only get out, what you put in’, so get involved, be social, work hard and you’ll get the most out of the ICMS experience. Even though there are minimal holidays, it’s worth it!
