Future Event Planners Get a Head Start at ICMS Workshop

ICMS recently welcomed high school students to its Northern Beaches Campus for Event Creation: The Ultimate High School Workshop.

The day gave students a practical introduction to event management and a chance to connect with industry professionals before they’ve even started their studies.

The workshop brought together 57 students from Year 10 to Year 12, each curious about what a career in event management could look like.

Throughout the day, students worked through the key steps of planning an event, from brainstorming ideas to choosing venues, designing layouts, and organising details.

One of the highlights was the chance for students to plan their own dream events.

Whether it was a school formal, a charity fundraiser, or a themed birthday party, the activity encouraged them to think creatively and turn their ideas into structured plans.

What Makes ICMS Workshops Different?

This workshop wasn’t just about theory. Students worked in groups, solved problems, and learned directly from ICMS lecturers and industry professionals. It was a chance to see how the skills they were learning could be applied in real-world situations.

“The students learned the ins and outs of event planning, including everything from the event concept to venues and design,” Adriana Marinovic, ICMS Domestic Development Manager, explained.

“They got to be creative and also planned their dream event. It was a fun day, and the students learned what it would be like to study events and one day work in the industry.”

The workshop gave students a clear idea of what studying a Bachelor of Event Management at ICMS involves, as well as the kinds of careers they could pursue in the future.

For students who love planning, organising, and bringing ideas to life, this workshop was just the beginning. At ICMS, the journey starts long before graduation, with opportunities to connect with the industry and gain real-world experience from day one.
