Subject Aim:
The complexity of modern business environment requires business leaders to possess strong financial acumen to make informed decisions and to drive organisational performance. Accounting for Business Decisions integrates relevant theory and concepts with a range of professional attributes necessary to interpret and analyse accounting information, enabling managers to make sound decisions and judgements in a range of business contexts.
The aim of this subject is to address the importance of accurate, timely and reliable accounting and financial information, equipping students with the requisite knowledge and skills to prepare, analyse and interpret complex data to make sound business decisions. Students will learn how to produce a variety of financial and management reports that comply with applicable frameworks, regulatory requirements and industry standards. Students will be utilising a range of analytical tools for costing, decision-making, planning and control to provide business solutions.
The subject incorporates business scenarios, contemporary and international research and case studies. It aims at encouraging students to think critically and to apply their knowledge with confidence in various business contexts.
Learning Outcomes:
a) Develop technical competency in accounting skills/techniques and demonstrate their application in various business contexts.
b) Critically analyse and interpret accounting information to support decision making in complex business scenarios.
c) Prepare and present financial statements and management reports that are consistent with the applicable frameworks, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
d) Construct and succinctly communicate recommendations to key business stakeholders.
