Subject Rationale:

The subject builds on the core financial management knowledge and skills covered in the Financial Management subject and prepares students to advise management and clients on complex strategic financial management issues facing an organisation.

The subject explores the roles and responsibilities of senior financial executives and advisors, while trying to meet conflicting stakeholders needs within multinational business environment. The students will focus on evaluating strategic consequences of making investment and financing decisions and will be developing advisory skills in planning strategic acquisitions, mergers and corporate reorganisations.

The subject re-examines the existence of risks in the context of treasury function within an organisation and offers sophisticated strategies to manage such risks. Students will be assessing ethical dimensions of strategic financial decisions across a range of business scenarios.

The content of the subject is aligned to and will prepare students for sitting the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Advanced Financial Management exam.

Learning Outcomes:

a) Critically reflect on the role and responsibilities of the senior financial executives in meeting conflicting needs of stakeholders.

b) Critically evaluate complex investment alternatives and assess their financial and strategic consequences, both domestically and internationally.

c) Evaluate and apply advanced treasury and risk management techniques.

d) Critically assess mergers and acquisitions as an alternative growth strategy and recommend corporate re-organisation strategies.

e) Assess ethical dimensions of strategic financial decisions across a range of business scenarios and advise on good practice in the financial management of the organisation.
