Subject Aim:

The business events sector is a high value, fast-growing component of Australia’s visitor economy and its key global competitors. In addition, the business events sector also augments economic activity well beyond directly measurable metrics including:-

• Knowledge dispersal and creation;
• Promoting innovation and investment; and • Community development

In a highly competitive global market, a professional approach to event management and a comprehensive understanding of the key stakeholders and event bidding processes is required.

The overall aim of the subject is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the processes, challenges and operational aspects of bidding for, planning and executing business events. You will understand the close relationship with associations and will be able to identify and examine the roles and responsibilities of other key stakeholders in the business event sector.

Learning Outcomes:

a) Critique the make-up and scope of the business events sector and its value to an economy.
b) Create a bid document based on a request for tender and present a professional bid pitch to a panel of stakeholders.
c) Evaluate the impacts an event can have on a destination and the planning required to produce successful and positive impacts.
d) Analyse the relationship between associations and the event sector and how best to service the associations sector.
e) Apply stakeholder management theory to be able to best manage key stakeholders involved with business events.
f) Demonstrate professional and persuasive written and oral communication skills.
