Subject Aim:

The subject aims to give you an insight into the everyday tasks performed by a Front Office Manager and the Executive Housekeeper. It also aims to assess your ability to think as a manager in Rooms Division, with regard to financial and service related matters. The overall aim is to ensure that you have a sound knowledge of the responsibilities of running a Rooms Division department.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Determine the financial success of the Rooms Division operations by analysing and interpreting Front Office reports.
  • Applies principles of forecast and overbooking to create a realistic Front Office forecast.
  • Understand and apply the concept of Revenue Management and the importance of night audits to allow the Front Office Manager to analyse information.
  • Examine the role of the Executive Housekeeper and the importance of cost control within the department.
  • Justify the value of an effective ‘customer service’ programme in the daily operation of the Rooms Division department.

Student Assessment:

Exams will take place in weeks 12 & 13. Please refer to the official Exam Timetable for further information.

You are required to prepare for assessments by reading the assessment instructions on Moodle and the subject notes, handouts and readings. Class work and practical application of theory assist in reinforcing the importance of this subject’s topics. Note: It is important to remember that it is the quality of your thinking and written presentation of that thought which attracts the highest grades.

In order to pass this subject, ALL three assessments must be attempted and submitted.
