Moving to a new country to study is a big step, but for International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) alumna Suzy Nguyen, it was the start of a new chapter that eventually led her to landing a role at Crush Digital.
Suzy came to Sydney after graduating from Hon Gai High School in Vietnam, determined to build her skills in business.
Now she works full-time as a Digital Account Manager at Sydney’s Crush Digital, one of Sydney’s most experienced digital advertising and marketing agencies.
Suzy manages a mix of clients, from luxury jewellery brands to tech companies.
Crush Digital is known for working with some of Australia’s most recognisable brands, including Mercedes-Benz, Laser Clinics, and Caesarstone, to name just a few.
Their focus is on supercharging business growth with bespoke strategies in digital advertising, content creation, and marketing.
Suzy’s role keeps things interesting.
“At Crush, I manage multi-channel digital campaigns, including SEO, paid social, Google Ads, influencer marketing, and lead creative direction for social media content and video production, as well as managing different events we have for clients,” Suzy says.
She likes the variety and sees how her ICMS foundation helps her meet the fast pace and challenges each day brings.
“My education at ICMS gave me the confidence and foundation to grow in this fast-paced field.”
Seeing brands succeed, especially on social media, is a real highlight.
“One of the most exciting parts is helping brands go viral on social media, seeing your strategy turn into real results is super rewarding,” she says.
Sometimes, she even gets to join in the fun.
“An interesting story was when I was on most of the client’s videos on social media, and when we did some events, people who came to the event recognised me and took pictures with me. I felt like a real influencer.”
Her story shows how ICMS combines practical skills and industry-focused learning to set students up for the real world.
Suzy’s path started with laying a strong foundation. She began by studying English at Aspire Institute. From there, she completed a Bachelor of Events Management and a Master of International Business at ICMS.
ICMS stood out to her for its reputation and its approach to learning.
“I was drawn to ICMS because of its strong reputation in business and events management, but also because of the practical, industry-focused learning model,” Suzy explains.
“The campus felt inspiring, and the international community made me feel welcomed from the start. Also, the castle looks amazing and so beautiful on top of the mountain in Manly.”
For Suzy, what made ICMS special was how hands-on the experience was. Instead of just learning from books, she was planning real events and building business models from scratch.
“The thing I love the most was hands-on experience of what we were studying,” she says.
“I love when we did the projects for an event, or created a whole business model for your imagined business. Those experiences gave me skills and connected to people more.”
This approach made a real impact. After graduating, Suzy started a café and an online store, putting her branding and marketing knowledge to use.
“That experience gave me practical skills in branding, marketing, and social media, which helped me transition into agency work,” she recalls.
A big part of every ICMS degree is the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program, which sends students into real workplaces before they graduate.
Suzy completed her industry placement at the Sydney Opera House.
“I assisted with event planning and client service,” Suzy says.
“It taught me a lot about professionalism, time management, and dealing with real world challenges, skills that I now use every day in digital marketing.”
That experience gave her an edge.
After her internship at Crush Digital, she was offered a full-time job.
“It gave me the knowledge and space to practice and I got the full time role after that,” she says.
For Suzy, it’s all about your attitude as you start your career. She encourages students to stay open and willing to learn.
“Be curious, be proactive, and don’t be afraid to ask questions,” she advises. “Show that you’re willing to learn and adapt, that attitude will take you much further than just having the ‘right’ answers.”
Looking back, Suzy doesn’t hesitate to recommend ICMS.
“Absolutely! ICMS gave me not just the knowledge, but also the confidence and support network to pursue my career,” she says.
“The practical experience, international friends, and beautiful campus made it an unforgettable journey.”
