Federal Government’s Event Handbook Written by ICMS Expert Master of Events Lecturer

February 1, 2019

The new ICMS Master of Event Management is overseen by 2018 International Festivals and Events (IFEA) Hall of Fame recipient William (Bill) O’Toole who has written the handbook used as a “standard” within the Australian events industry, approved by the Federal Government.

From business and social events to mega events, concerts and festivals, a professional event manager ensures the success of any event. Whether students are already working in the industry or have ambitions to forge a professional career in event management, this post-graduate qualification builds on the success of the highly acclaimed undergraduate ICMS Bachelor of Event Management, currently ranked number 1 in Australia based on graduate employability.

Students will reap the benefits of studying under an experienced team led by acknowledged leader in the field, O’Toole. Not only has Bill worked in the events industry around the world, in places such as Dubai, London, Paris, Shanghai and Khartoum, he also wrote ‘Safe and Healthy Crowded Places Handbook 2018’.

“This handbook is an Australian standard for crowded places. It’s something that every event in Australia will need to use,” he said.

O’Toole is an Events Development Specialist, author of four international event textbooks; and principal of Event Project Management System, Pty., Ltd. in Bondi Beach, NSW, Australia.

“What is different about the ICMS Master of Event Management is that it is absolutely current. If you want to assess your current knowledge, learn the latest in events, ensure you are taught by people who know the theory and have done the onsite work and mix with people who work in the field, this Master of Event Management is for you. Not only that, but you would be doing it in the most magnificent environment and that’s here in Manly, at ICMS.”

Best practices for managing risk, sustainability, and legal issues are important in the modern events sector and the ICMS Master of Event Management offers students the latest thinking in these areas.

“The tools and techniques, combined with the theory in the Masters, can be applied around the world. The course recognises the experience and knowledge of the participant, and turns it into tradable and transferable skills that can be used in any city, country or region to deliver first class events.”

This qualification will enable students to deepen their understanding of the industry both at a domestic and international level.

“Imagine if you are working in events now, you could get a degree while you’re working,” O’Toole said. “And at the end of it, you’ll have a Master of Event Management.”
