Citra trueschel, germany

Bachelor of business management, 2013

Director: havana beach, manly, australia

Q: What is your current role, and with what company?
I am the director at my company, Havana Beach, in Manly.

Q: What career achievements are you especially proud of?
I am proud of the team that I have built around me, most of whom have been with my company for over two years.

Q: How has your ICMS degree contributed to you achieving your professional goals?
My Bachelor of Business Management degree gave me all the basics to succeed in the corporate world. Directly after completing my degree I worked at AirPlus International, a finance company, after which I was recruited by Corporate Traveller as a Business Development Manager working in sales. I was the youngest in my team but shortly after starting I became best Business Development Manager (BDM) in Australia. If it wasn’t for Havana Beach I would have probably stayed there, moving up the ladder.

Q: What were the major contributing factors to your decision to study at ICMS?
ICMS had an international partnership with my former university in Hamburg/Germany.

Q: What were your highlights during your time at ICMS?
Meeting so many different people from around the world and working together in team group assignments taught me a great deal about people, accountability and leadership. These group assignments had their ups and downs but they taught me a lot about meaningful collaboration in life.

Q: Where did you do your industry training, and how has that helped you in your career?
I did my industry training back home in Germany with a renewable energy company. This helped me gain insight into a company with strong international ties.

Q: What would be your advice to someone considering studying at ICMS?
Make the most of it, be honest and open-minded. You will meet so many new people from around the world – embrace their culture. Enjoy your time and gather as many experiences as you can. I’m still in close contact with my old friends from ICMS even though we live across the globe. You never know what networks you will tap into and which doors this can open.

Q: What is the best thing about working in your industry?
Meeting new people and giving them an experience that they love and return to enjoy again. We have a large base of local, regular customers. I love my team and the work that they do. We have won awards for our cocktails and get very good reviews for our Cuban-inspired menu, which is really one-of-a-kind in Sydney.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
I want to take the Havana Beach brand around the world, taking our motto of #havanagoodtime to many foreign places.
