ICMS X AUSISO: Supporting Student Success in the Sports Industry

March 4, 2026

The partnership between ICMS and the Australian International Sports Organisation (AUSISO) is a natural fit, bringing together two organisations dedicated to providing students with real-world experience in the sports industry.

This collaboration not only equips students with practical skills but also creates clear career pathways. This is perfectly illustrated by ICMS alumna Cassandra Borg whose placement at AUSISO evolved into a full-time role.

What is AUSISO?

Founded in 2018, AUSISO is dedicated to driving positive outcomes through sport. The organisation works with education providers, government bodies, health services, and sporting organisations to deliver programs that create social change.

Their mission aligns closely with ICMS’s commitment to providing students with real-world experience and career pathways in the sports industry.

A Partnership Built on Shared Goals

Nick Toscan, Director and Co-Founder of AUSISO, describes the partnership as a natural fit.

“Both ICMS and AUSISO are committed to giving students meaningful experiences in the sports industry,” Nick says.

“We offer ICMS students the chance to gain real-world experience in diverse environments, such as schools and educational institutions, where they can apply what they’ve learned in their studies.”

Nick also points out the career pathways available through AUSISO.

Many students start in placement roles, move into paid casual positions as Casual Sports Program Officers, and some, like Cassandra, progress into full-time roles.

“Cassandra’s journey is a great example of how hard work, positivity, and a commitment to developing skills can lead to success in the sports industry,” he adds.

Cassandra’s Career Journey

Cassandra, who completed a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) at ICMS, reflects on how her casual role at AUSISO helped launch her career.

“During the early stages of my degree, I applied for the Casual Sports Program Officer role with AUSISO. It was a great opportunity to build practical skills and gain hands-on experience in the sporting industry,” she says.

For 18 months, Cassandra worked across the Northern Beaches, delivering sports coaching programs.

This role helped her develop coaching, communication, and organisational skills. Her dedication led to a full-time position as Sports Administrator, where she now focuses on program coordination and operations.

Making a Difference Through Sport

Cassandra enjoys combining her passion for sport with her background in childcare.

“One of the highlights of my day is encouraging young people to participate in sport and helping them develop healthy, active habits,” she says.

She also values the opportunity to mentor Casual Sports Program Officers, having started in the role herself.

“I understand the challenges of the position, and I enjoy supporting and guiding our team to help them succeed in the industry,” she explains.

How ICMS Helped Shape Her Career

Cassandra credits ICMS with helping her turn her passion for sport into a career.

“Choosing to study at ICMS was one of the best decisions I’ve made,” she says.

“Living on campus helped me build lifelong friendships and step outside my comfort zone. Taking on a leadership role as a Resident Leader also developed my confidence and communication skills.”

She encourages others to consider ICMS.

“Through ICMS, I’ve been able to turn my passion into a career, and I’m now in a position to help others do the same. I’d absolutely recommend ICMS to anyone; it could shape your future in ways you don’t expect.”

A Strong Future for ICMS and AUSISO

The partnership between ICMS and AUSISO continues to provide students with the skills and experience they need to succeed in the sports industry.

Cassandra’s story is just one example of how this collaboration is helping students and alumni achieve their career goals.
