2024 Olympic trialist Alexandra Murrayis a competitive swimmer with big ambitions, both in and out of the water.
She isn’t just chasing personal bests in the pool; she’s also setting herself up for success with a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management)at ICMS.
“I’m a competitive swimmer who specialises in the 200-metre butterfly, while also closely focusing on the 100-metre butterfly,” Alexandra said.
“I compete across a variety of events and strokes, which has helped me develop as a well-rounded athlete.”
Alexandra has already achieved remarkable milestones in her swimming career.
“In 2024, I competed in the Paris Olympic trials for the 200-metre butterfly.
“I placed in the top 20 nationally out of around 60 swimmers who got the opportunity to qualify for this event,” she shared.
Add to this her recent results, which include placing fifth in the 200-metre butterfly at the National Championships in Brisbane, and it’s clear she’s a force to be reckoned with.
Her season highlights also include competing at the UniSport Nationals at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, representing ICMSfor the very first time.
“Despite managing a long-term shoulder injury, I achieved strong results this season, including regularly making top-10 finishes in finals throughout both meets.”
Alexandra’s passion for sports doesn’t stop at the pool.
She’s in her first year of the ICMS Bachelor of Business (Sports Management)– a degree she believes is helping her pave the way for a future in the sports industry.
“I considered a number of universities across different states, especially those offering sports scholarships, but ICMS stood out to me,” she said.
“I really value the smaller and more personal classroom environment. It made the transition from high school feel more comfortable.”
The flexibility and support ICMS provides to student athletes like Alexandra have been a game-changer for her.
“The college is incredibly supportive, which has helped me balance study, training, and work.”
While Alexandra is making waves in the pool now, she has big goals for her future career.
“My goal is to one day become a manager of a professional sports team, ideally in the AFL or NRL, which are my favorite sports to follow,” she said.
Her ambition doesn’t stop there.
Alexandra is also keeping an open mind about opportunities in the swimming industry, whether that’s event coordination, athlete development, or working with national sporting organisations.
“What excites me most about studying sports management is the versatility of the degree and how it opens up a wide range of career paths in both grassroots and elite sport,” Alexandra says.
By combining her passion for sports with her studies, Alexandra is setting herself up for a future filled with possibilities.
“ICMS is incredibly flexible and supportive, and studying here has really helped me stay on top of everything I want to achieve,” she adds.
Whether she’s pushing her limits in the pool or planning her next professional step, Alexandra is making every stroke count and set to make a splash in the sports industry.
