For ICMS sports management student Phoebe Berglund, life moves fast both on and off the track.
From competing at high-level championships to following her dream of working in the English Premier League, Phoebe is already making her mark in athletics and sports management.
Phoebe has been competing at a high level since her school days at Pymble Ladies’ College, where she represented both her school and state, NSW, in nationwide athletics meets.
Specialising in the 100m and 200m sprints and relay races, her hard work has paid off in a big way.
“My proudest moment was placing second in the U18 Women’s 100m at the 2024 State All Schools Championships, running a big personal best of 12.56 seconds,” said Phoebe.
“That was a moment I’ll always treasure.”
She also shared how her coaches, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and Katie Edwards, have been crucial to her success.
“Melinda’s been my coach since I was 10. She’s been like a second mum to me, and I owe so much to both her and Katie for their support.”
Phoebe’s time at Pymble Ladies’ College also played a huge role in her athletic development.
“The school supported athletes so well. We had access to a private gym and personal trainers like Jack Pennington, who helped us build our strengths in different sports,” she explained.
Now a first-year ICMS Bachelor of Business (Sports Management)student, Phoebe has continued to push her limits.
She recently competed at the Australian National Athletics Championships in Perth, running in both the 100m and 200m events for NSW.
“It was such a high-level competition, with the best runners in the country! Competing in the U20 age group taught me a lot about challenging my capabilities.”
Phoebe also represented ICMS at the Uni Nationals for athletics.
Despite racing in an open field against some of Australia’s top athletes, she reached the semi-finals in the 100m.
“Even though conditions were tough, I ran close to my personal best times, and it was great to compete alongside friends from other universities,” said Phoebe.
Phoebe’s choice to study at ICMS was driven by the college’s smaller classes and the promise of a close-knit student-community connection.
And for Phoebe, the track isn’t just about personal achievements but about giving back, too.
“I’m a coach in my spare time, and I love working with kids. That’s definitely something I want to keep doing,” she explained.
Ultimately, her big ambition is to work for the Premier League or manage professional athletes.
“It’s all about being part of something bigger, helping people grow, and making a real impact in sports.”
With her determination both on and off the field, it’s clear Phoebe has set herself up for a winning future.
Whether it’s breaking records on the track or breaking into the world of sports management, she’s a name to watch.
