When people think about studying hospitality images of fine dining and plush 5 star hotels typically spring to mind. But for recent graduate Georgina Larby, studying a Bachelor of Hospitality Management at ICMS in Manly was a springboard to entrepreneurial success.
Georgina’s company Pure Pops with its range of handcrafted, 100% natural ice pops has really struck a chord with health conscious consumers. After humble beginning in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, her delicious product range is now stocked up and down the east coast of Australia.
Initially drawn to ICMS by the stunning location and interest in the hospitality industry, it was the unique blend of business/management content along with her 9 month industry placement – a feature of all ICMS degrees – that started her on a more enterprising journey.
Georgina says, “ICMS was my first pick to study a Bachelor course in hospitality. The location of the campus was also a major deciding factor… how can anyone say no to the view?
Thanks to ICMS I have developed an all-round hands-on approach to business and management. “My industry training placement was at Victoria’s, Wategoes Beach Byron Bay and the owner of the business fuelled my eagerness to start something for myself. My business, Pure Pops, is continuing to grow and there is a great community around our brand from our suppliers, to the stores that stock us and our happy customers,” she says.
“Thanks to ICMS I have developed an all-round hands-on approach to business and management. There is not a day that goes by that we’re not thrown in the deep the end. The only way to trouble shoot your way out of these situations is to know your business and not be afraid to think outside the square.”
