Responding proactively to changes in the global tourism and hospitality industry was the focus of internationally renowned speaker and tourism expert Dr Andy Nazarechuk when he addressed International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) students this week.
The Northern Beaches, NSW, higher education institute hosted Dr Nazarechuk as part of the college’s Professional Lecture Series, where students and faculty can learn from the best in the business in various industries.
ICMS is a leader in the hospitality and tourism training sector, and Dr Nazarechuk is perfectly placed to give students a global perspective on the changes and challenges this industry faces, and how these can be overcome.
“Inviting speakers of Dr Nazarechuk’s calibre and stature in the global hospitality and tourism industry to share his experience at ICMS is part of our strategy of exposing students to next level thinking in the areas in which they will one day carve their niche,” ICMS Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Chris Auld
Dr Nazarechuk is at the peak of his profession as one of the world’s foremost authorities in both the academic and the professional worlds of hospitality development, and he shared his wealth of knowledge freely and articulately.
Addressing a packed audience, Dr Nazarechuk discussed the skills that students need to develop and possess as the international tourism and hospitality industry evolves due to technological development. He reviewed how top visionaries predicted changes in the ways people live and interact, and used case studies to underpin his findings.
Students also learned how the American city of Las Vegas has used a wide variety of service techniques to help it become one of the top tourism destinations in the world.
Dr Nazarechuk earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of La Verne, California. He has served in the United Nations World Tourism Panel of Tourism Experts, the Singapore Workforce Development Agency Tourism Industry Skills and Training Council and was president of APacCHRIE. He has also held senior executive positions at several Las Vegas hotel casinos. He has also recently co-authored a series of articles on the development of Integrated Resorts in Japan.
