Subject Aim:

Managing the operations of an organisation is designing, operating and improving the business processes that create values for the organisation and its customers through goods and services. The subject aims to provide students the concepts, insights and tools to design and manage the operational capabilities of organisations. It will give a survey of the main OM issues and key concepts.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the concept and importance of Operations Management
  • Understand the concept of value in operations and evaluate how it can be measured and increased
  • Understand and apply basic operations management concepts
  • Evaluate operations management performance measures
  • Understand the concept of simulation in operations management and evaluate the benefits of computer simulations
  • Understand and apply basic quality management tools

Student Assessment:

Exams will take place in weeks 12 & 13. Please refer to the official Exam Timetable for further information. While each student will have preferred a preferred individual learning strategy, it is important to acknowledge that most learning is achieved outside of class time, through personal work (reading, practice questions, etc.).

Lectures and tutorials can only provide a structure to assist study.
