A Study Abroad year in Australia for French student Eva Mangin gave her so much confidence that she has signed on for a postgraduate degree at ICMS following her bachelor degree graduation.
Eva started her studies at Université de Lorraine in France before taking on a Study Abroad year at ICMS from August 2022 to November 2023. She graduated with an ICMS Bachelor of Business and is currently studying an ICMS Master of Event Management.
She recently spoke at the ICMS Graduation Ceremony, held at the Northern Beaches Campus in early 2024, about how her experience in Sydney, Australia, was more than she expected.
She surprised herself by giving a graduation speech in English in Australia, something she never thought possible back in France.
“A little over a year ago, when I first set foot in this magnificent castle perched at the top of a very long hill, thousands of miles from home, I never imagined I would have the honor of standing before you today as a graduate speaker.”
Eva was amazed by how much she grew personally and professionally while at ICMS.
While studying, she works in the ICMS campus coffeeshop, she stayed on campus in residence, and has been on the ICMS SRC in the events department.
“I am proud to have left my comfort zone, overcome my personal challenges and discovered a new version of myself here in Australia. I am not the same person I was when I arrived here – I am now the person I aspired to be!”
Eva shared how taking risks and facing new challenges had a profound and lasting difference in her life.
She stressed how the experience made her grow as a person, explaining how ICMS helped her become stronger and more self-assured.
“ICMS has been much more than an educational institution for me; it has become a community, a family. I’ve learned much more than academic knowledge here; I’ve discovered new cultures, broadened my horizons and, above all, discovered myself.”
Eva’s story shows what studying abroad is all about – discovering yourself, immersing in new cultures, and growing personally.
“I’m proud to have walked through the doors of ICMS and to have had the chance to meet you all,” she told fellow graduands.
“You have all contributed to shaping the person I am today, someone bolder, more open and more confident in her choices.”
She encouraged others to welcome change, explore new opportunities, and trust in the life-changing impact of education.
The ICMS Study Abroad program, or semester abroad, gives students a great chance to study at a beautiful beach campus in Australia.
It’s like studying in a sandstone ‘castle’ with amazing views of Manly Beach and Sydney Harbour—a unique and special place to learn.
ICMS makes sure students have a full experience with its academic and social programs. This lets students dive into the Australian way of life while studying at an industry leading higher education institution.
In the Study Abroad 1* program, students can be at ICMS for up to 52 weeks, including a professional placement / internship at an Australian company through the ICMS Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program.
This practical experience gives students a taste of international work environments while they enjoy the campus’ beautiful surroundings and make use of visa work opportunities.
For example, while living and studying in Australia, Eva has gained experience during her internship with SOMO, a boutique digital marketing agency based in Sydney. The skills she has gained in marketing and communications, before she even graduated, are invaluable for her future career.
Apart from the academic and career opportunities, studying abroad lets students dive into a different culture and broaden their perspectives.
Like Eva, you can form lasting friendships with people worldwide and make unforgettable memories while discovering a new country.
