From winning gold at the recent UniSport Nationals Surfing championships to conquering a debilitating stutter to deliver a speech broadcast on TV nationally, and then winning an International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) Professional Scholarship, ICMS student Riley Cadman enjoyed a stellar year in 2019.

Cadman took top honours in the Shortboard category at the UniSport Nationals Surfing championships held at Curl Curl Beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Around 80 of Australia’s best student surfers took to the waves, representing 13 different universities.

“I am stoked to finally win gold in the Shortboard division at Uni Games. I have got to the finals in the past two years but haven’t been able to take the win, so I’m stoked to finally get it,” Cadman said.

The sought after gold medal for the ICMS Surf Club Captain comes after Cadman’s triumphant and inspiring speech he delivered to an audience at the ICMS Commencement Ceremony earlier this year which was broadcast on a show with a reach of 1.5million Australians. His speech was the culmination of a year’s worth of courage gathering, and was filmed at the ICMS Manly Campus by Channel 9 for an episode of Australia’s primetime show ‘This Time Next Year’ which is broadcast internationally.

The show follows people like Cadman who want to transform their lives by pledging to achieve a goal between a set timeframe, in his case between February 2018 and February 2019.

“Conquering my fears of public speaking over the last year has been something I didn’t ever dream of doing at such a young age. To be able to get up in front of a crowd, to be in control of my speech and say what I want, when I want, is a dream come true.”

In his third and final year of an ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) degree, Cadman, a member of the SRC, has also recently been awarded an ICMS Professional Scholarship.

“To be awarded a Professional Scholarship at ICMS is the icing on the cake for this year. I am honoured to receive this scholarship. This is my last year at ICMS and I am looking forward to taking the next step and finding a career in the property industry. I have really enjoyed the property course at ICMS and have learnt a lot,” Cadman said.

“I am excited to see what the future holds.”
