Lecturer (Tourism)

Alcinda Trawen is a tourism policy and planning specialist with over 15 years’ experience spanning national, regional, and international levels. Her expertise covers sustainable tourism development, policy design, destination planning, cruise tourism, and institutional capacity building across the Pacific.

As a Tourism Analyst with the Asian Development Bank’s Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI) since 2021, Alcinda leads tourism technical assistance and advisory work to strengthen the business enabling environment across Pacific developing member countries. Her portfolio includes projects in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu the Marshall Islands, and the Cook Islands, with regional initiatives focusing on gender equality, tourism data, and private sector engagement.

Previously, Alcinda served as Deputy Manager of Research and International Relations at the UN Tourism Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific (Japan), where she coordinated research, developed publications, and led regional engagement initiatives. Before that, she held senior leadership roles at the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority, culminating as Director of Policy and Planning, where she spearheaded the National Tourism Master Plan, Cruise Tourism Strategy, and National Accommodation Grading System, and represented PNG in APEC Tourism Working Group (TW) meetings and led the TWG as Lead Shepherd.

Her career reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based planning, cross-agency collaboration, and advancing inclusive, sustainable tourism outcomes across diverse island economies.
