Dr Jasen Burgess is Chief Quality Officer (CQ0) at the International College of Management, Sydney and part of the Executive Management Group with responsibilities encompassing quality assurance, academic governance and policy, and risk management. As CQO, Dr Burgess is an ex-Officio member of the ICMS Academic Board and chairs the Appeals Committee. 

Dr Burgess has a PhD in French history from the University of New South Wales, a Bachelor of Arts First Class Honours degree from the University of Sydney, a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2022, Dr Burgess was appointed Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) in recognition of his effective strategic leadership in supporting high quality student learning. Dr Burgess has published and presented conference papers on French history and higher education quality assurance and regulation.  

Dr Burgess has over 15 years of experience working in the tertiary education sector, including in senior management roles in quality assurance, regulation, and strategic management in private and public tertiary education institutions and in regulatory, professional accreditation and external quality assurance bodies. 

Before joining ICMS, Dr Burgess was Director, Educational Quality and Integrity at CQUniversity Australia, where he led quality assurance, accreditation processes, regulatory policy and compliance, academic integrity, learning analytics and surveys, and centralised work integrated learning. This role was culmination of Dr Burgess’ long-standing institutional leadership in educational quality, standards and integrity at CQUniversity.  

Dr Burgess was co-lead for CQUniversity’s Curriculum Refresh Project 2020-2021, part of CQU Renew, a major institutional improvement program spanning the curriculum, student experience, information technology infrastructure and teaching spaces. Dr Burgess provided strategic leadership over projects encompassing policy development and revision, curriculum renewal, learning analytics, surveys, accreditation systems and course review and improvement processes.  

At CQUniversity Dr Burgess provided strategic leadership of the credit project within Project Optimise, which transformed the student onboarding experience, with the successful implementation of this project evident in the halving of credit turnaround times.  

Dr Burgess successfully project managed CQUniversity and Think Education’s joint re-registrations with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), as both a higher education and vocational education and training (VET) provider, with each of these institutions re-registered for seven years with no conditions.  

Dr Burgess was the first Director, Accreditation at the Australian Dental Council where he built an accreditation unit, frameworks and systems to support a high functioning accreditation service. Dr Burgess was an Audit Director for the former Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) and a founding Director, Regulation and Review at the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).
