Dr Patrick Shearman is on the Senior Academic Team. As Program Manager (Information Technology), Dr Shearman is responsible for overseeing the development of undergraduate and postgraduate information technology degrees. He is also Program Manager for the Graduate Certificate in Business.

Starting his career as a systems analyst at the London Stock Exchange, Dr Shearman then moved into software development for one of the UK’s largest financial markets technology consulting firms, specialising in the development of investment management and analytics systems.

Upon moving to Australia, Dr Shearman has held various positions across many sectors primarily focused on Digital transformation. Previous roles include technology management at BT Financial group, head of gaming systems technology at TAB, Chief information officer at HCF, and Chief information officer at a data analytics startup.

Dr Shearman has always had a passion for education, particularly teaching, and transitioned to academia in 2016 when he started lecturing and tutoring at UTS Business School while completing his PhD.

In 2019 Dr Shearman moved to Torrens University in Sydney as a Senior Lecturer where he focused on teaching a range of information technology subjects. He also consults to other higher education organisations on academic technology program curriculums and has been a member of academic and curriculum boards.

Dr Shearman’s research interest focuses on barriers to digital transformation in the disability and aged care sector where he is currently supervising post graduate student research. His PhD focused on the effects of technology on the well-being of aged care staff.

Dr Shearman holds a PhD from the UTS Business School, a Master of Information Technology (MinFtech) from Sydney University, a Master of Science (MSc) in systems analysis from City, University of London and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Galway University, Ireland. Patrick has also completed the Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard’s Derek Bok Centre for Teaching and Learning and the MIT Sloan Certificate in Artificial Intelligence strategy.

Dr Shearman is a member of the  ScrumAlliance and is a Certified Agile ScrumMaster and a Certified Scrum Product Owner.
