ICMS’s Property Degree: A Decade of Strong Career Outcomes in Property

ICMS’s Property Degree: A Decade of Strong Career Outcomes in Property

September 24, 2026

For more than 10 years, the accredited Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) at ICMS has built a powerful reputation not just as a degree, but as a launchpad.

In an industry where experience matters as much as knowledge, ICMS made a deliberate choice more than 10 years ago to design a degree that doesn’t just teach property but immerses students in it. Today, that decision continues to pay off for students, graduates, and the industry itself.

This is a story of consistency, credibility and career outcomes that speak for themselves.

Career Outcomes That Outperform

For more than a decade, ICMS has focused on ensuring that a property degree is not simply a qualification, but a pathway into a career.

The employment outcomes reported by surveyed graduates of the Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) provide evidence of that focus.

Based on ICMS’s internal graduation survey, from 2022 to the end of 2025, an average of 80.17% of surveyed graduates were in full-time employment, compared with the QILT national average of 73.65%.

This represents a 6.52 percentage-point difference in average full-time employment between surveyed ICMS BPDIV graduates and the QILT national average over the period.

The ICMS figure is based specifically on responses from surveyed graduates through ICMS’s internal graduation survey and should be understood as a survey result, rather than a measure of every BPDIV graduate.

The results reflect the philosophy behind the degree: combining academic learning with practical industry experience, giving students opportunities to build professional networks before they graduate, and equipping them with the skills and confidence to move into the property industry.

For ICMS, graduate success is not simply about completing a degree. It is about what happens next, whether students can take what they have learned, apply it in a professional environment and build the foundations of a career.

The employment data, alongside the experiences of ICMS property graduates working across the industry, demonstrates the value of that approach.

A Degree Built for the Real World

From day one, ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) students have been introduced to a model that sets them apart thanks to the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program.

This isn’t an add-on; it’s the backbone of all ICMS degrees. Every degree student completes up to two trimesters of professional placements in an industry that interests them.

WIL is where lecture content meets live deals, where classroom theory meets client expectations, and where students begin thinking like professionals, not just learners.

As alumnus Daniel Garing, Senior Executive at Cushman & Wakefield, reflects:

“The ICMS WIL program has been a unique learning process for myself. It has allowed me to apply the theory I have learned into a practical role within the property industry.”

For many students, this moment, stepping into the industry before graduating is where everything changes.

Katyia Doughan, who completed her professional placement at CBRE and went on to work there full time, echoes Daniel’s sentiment. She describes her WIL experience as a “game-changer”.

“It gave me the experience and connections I needed to get my foot in the door… That experience directly contributed to me securing a full-time role after graduation.”

Learning That Shapes Thinking

The ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) degree is designed to broaden perspectives as much as build technical skills.

Covering the subject areas of development, investment, valuation, finance, and law, it prepares graduates for a wide range of career pathways. It also teaches them how to think critically about the role property plays in shaping cities and communities.

As recent graduate Anthony Belfiore explains:

“It pushed me to think critically about how property shapes communities and investment decisions.”

This mindset – strategic, analytical, and commercially aware – is what employers recognise.

Careers That Progress

ICMS property graduates don’t just enter the workforce, they have opportunities to advance within it.

From global firms to boutique developers, ICMS alumni have built careers across every corner of the industry, with many progressing into senior roles at organisations such as JLL, CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield, and SCA Property Group.

Sam Shiell, Senior Project Manager at Artazan Property Group, reflects on the long-term value of the degree:

“The industry training aspect is something that will really hold you in good stead for your entire career.”

For many, those careers even begin before graduation.

Stephanie Macourt, Associate Director at JLL, recalls:

“ICMS provided me with unreserved support… which enabled me to take up the fantastic opportunity of working for JLL while still a student completing my property degree.”

A Community That Stands Behind You

Beyond academics and career outcomes, ICMS is known for something that can be harder to measure but is equally important: community.

Small class sizes, strong industry connections and personalised support create an environment where students are known, supported and challenged, and where students can build genuine connections with the people around them.

For Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) student Stephanie Macourt, that sense of connection was a defining part of her ICMS experience:

“I am having a ball.”

Stephanie recognised that a student genuinely loving both their degree and their institution might seem surprising to some.

“This seems to surprise many – a tertiary student who loves her degree! And loves the institution even more!”

For Stephanie, there was a simple reason:

“There’s valid reason for this: ICMS is truly something special.”

Her experience reflects what ICMS has sought to create for more than 30 years: a close-knit educational community where students are more than a name on a class list. They are individuals who are known, supported and encouraged to make the most of their opportunities.

 Accredited and Industry Recognised

The ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) is accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011, with its accreditation publicly recorded on the National Register.

The degree is also recognised by the Australian Valuers Institute (AVI), providing a pathway for graduates seeking professional certification as valuers through AVI.

Importantly, professional body recognition is separate from the degree’s higher education accreditation. ICMS is not required by TEQSA or another regulator to hold separate course accreditation with a professional valuers’ body. Graduates may also pursue certification pathways with other professional valuers’ bodies, subject to those organisations’ individual assessment and certification requirements.

Disclaimer: Professional placement experiences, opportunities and graduate outcomes vary between students and are not guaranteed. Employment outcomes depend on individual circumstances and broader market conditions. Professional certification offered by property industry bodies is separate from the higher education accreditation of the ICMS Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation), and individual certification requirements and pathways may vary. Employment outcomes are calculated from the ICMS graduation survey with surveyed students who were in the workforce (either employed or actively seeking employment). Graduates who indicated they were not seeking employment are excluded from the results.
