ICMS Course Accreditation

ICMS Course Accreditation

October 1, 2026

ICMS is registered with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), Australia’s independent national regulator of higher education.

All higher education courses are accredited either:

  1. by TEQSA; or
  1. by ICMS under its TEQSA-granted Self-Accrediting Authority (SAA).

All accredited courses must meet the requirements of the Higher Education Standards Framework.

What does course accreditation mean?

Accreditation means that a higher education course meets the applicable Australian higher education standards.

For students, this means ICMS can award the higher education qualification associated with an accredited course.

Professional accreditation or industry recognition is separate from higher education course accreditation by TEQSA or ICMS (for TEQSA granted SAA) courses.

For some courses across the sector, professional accreditation is required for graduates to be eligible for registration or entry to a regulated profession. For other courses, recognition by an industry body is not required for ICMS to offer the course but may support graduates’ eligibility for professional membership or certification and provide assurance of the course’s industry relevance.

TEQSA-accredited courses

*This course falls within the scope of ICMS’s SAA but remains accredited by TEQSA for its current course accreditation period. It will transition to ICMS SAA accreditation when it next undergoes reaccreditation.

ICMS Self-Accrediting Authority

What is self-accrediting authority?

Self-Accrediting Authority (SAA) allows ICMS to accredit eligible higher education courses itself rather than seeking accreditation from TEQSA for each course.

On 28 May 2025, TEQSA granted ICMS SAA to courses at AQF levels 5-9 (excluding research) within:

  • Broad Field of Education (FoE) 08 – Management and Commerce
  • Narrow Field of Education (FoE) 1101 – Food and Hospitality

What does this mean for ICMS students?

Courses within this scope can be accredited by ICMS under its TEQSA-granted SAA. Courses outside this scope continue to be accredited by TEQSA. ICMS-accredited courses are subject to the same internal accreditation and reaccreditation cycle, including ongoing review and governance oversight.

Non-award courses

Non-award courses do not lead to a higher education qualification and are therefore not described as TEQSA or SAA accredited courses. Where offered to international students, they are included in ICMS’s CRICOS registration and considered by TEQSA as part of the CRICOS registration and renewal process.

For current information about ICMS registration and regulatory status refer to the TEQSA National Register.
