The International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) has reached a major milestone with Guizhou University of Commerce (GZUC) in China. Both institutions have received official approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education to establish a new joint institution called GZUC–ICMS United College in Guizhou China.
The GZUC–ICMS United College is officially listed on the Ministry of Education (MOE) China website. This recognition places ICMS alongside leading Australian universities on the MOE website. ICMS is the only Australian private higher education provider to be granted approval for a joint Transnational Education (TNE) institution in China.
This milestone underscores ICMS’s commitment to delivering quality industry focused education, strengthening its global development.
The approval marks the next stage in the collaboration between ICMS and GZUC. A recent highlight was a visit from the Guizhou Provincial Government Delegation to the ICMS Northern Beaches Campus in Manly earlier this year. Leaders from both institutions discussed future plans including offering ICMS degrees at GZUC in China.
The partnership aims to deepen ties between Australian and Chinese higher education and expand opportunities for students. Dr Lu Yongzheng, a key member of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee, has expressed strong support for this initiative.
Transnational Education (TNE) refers to educational programs delivered in a country different from the awarding institution’s accreditation. For ICMS, this approval signifies:
Strategic Growth: Entry into one of the world’s largest higher education markets strengthens ICMS’s international presence.
Brand Positioning: ICMS joins a select group of Australian institutions officially recognised by the Chinese MOE, enhancing credibility among Chinese students and families.
New Student Pathways: Students in China can now complete an ICMS degree without leaving their country, creating more accessible and affordable pathways into Australian higher education.
Industry Integration: Programs will be tailored to global workforce needs, ensuring graduates are equipped with future-ready skills.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ICMS and GZUC laid the foundation for this TNE initiative, enabling students in China to earn ICMS degrees.
The newly approved GZUC–ICMS United College will deliver undergraduate programs designed to meet the needs of global industries. Areas of study include:
“This partnership represents a significant step forward for ICMS and GZUC, creating opportunities that will benefit students, industries, and communities in both nations,” said Rowan Courtney-O’Connor, ICMS President and Managing Director.
With official approval from the Ministry of Education in China, the partnership is positioned to drive educational innovation and create new pathways for students. The collaboration between ICMS and GZUC is set to serve as a model of international cooperation, further strengthening links between Australia and China.
