Subject Aim:

The landscape of business project management has experienced a dynamic evolution in recent decades. Traditional rigid methodologies have conceded ground to innovative approaches prioritising agility, adaptability, collaboration, and faster response times. This imperative stems from the ever-increasing pace of business, where accelerated time-to-market is critical to remain competitive. 

Understanding project management principles in complex business environments empowers individuals to translate business needs into tangible realities balancing scope, time and cost constraints and create value that aligns with stakeholder expectations. Hence, embracing a systematic approach across industries to capitalising on business opportunities is paramount. This is where project management elevates from a technical skillset to a strategic imperative, propelling organisations forward in their pursuit of strategic objectives. 

This subject aims to equip students with the critical tools, language, and knowledge to navigate the intricate world of business project management. Students will delve into contemporary industry methodologies, exploring inherent principles, processes, practices, tools, and techniques. Students will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end business project life cycle, examining each key phase and its associated processes for the realisation of benefits.

b) Critically evaluate the differences and relationships between traditional waterfall and agile project management methodologies in a business context

c) Apply project management principles and practices for the development of a project management plan to achieve stakeholder engagement and measurable outcomes. 

d) Synthesise and apply advanced knowledge, and reflective practice to the governance of projects within an organisational and professional work setting. 

e) Interpret and apply integrated knowledge of project management industry methodologies and practices to a business scenario.
