Today, organisations are operating in a fast-paced, dynamic and internationally competitive environment. The traditional role of management accountant has transformed into a role of business consultant requiring a close liaison with senior management, supporting organisations in creating customer and shareholders value, gaining strong competitive positioning and making optimal business decisions.
Students will be utilising a range of analytical tools for costing, decision-making, planning and control within a dynamic and complex corporate context. The knowledge and skills gained will help students to address contemporary business environment requirements and to provide technology-driven business solutions within a management accounting context.
The subject incorporates business scenarios, contemporary and international research and case studies. It aims at encouraging students to think critically and to apply their knowledge with confidence in professional business contexts.
a) Critically evaluate the contribution of management accounting in creating value, short term planning, controlling and ethical decision making.
b) Apply a range of conventional and contemporary costing and pricing methods to real-life scenarios.
c) Demonstrate advanced knowledge of costing systems, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis across complex business scenarios.
d) Employ appropriate management accounting principles and techniques to determine an organisation’s cash flow and working capital requirements.
e) Critically analyse data and provide recommendations to improve business operations via the application of management accounting techniques.
