Businesses operate within a dynamic economic, financial, social and environmental context. Making evidence-based business decisions to navigate this complex and competitive business environment are essential skills of the business professional.
This subject prepares students to fulfill that goal in the following three ways. First, to apply theory as a toolkit to meet the practical economic, commercial and financial objectives of businesses. Second, to help businesses anticipate and respond to the actions of business competitors, changing economic, trade and financial conditions and government policies. Third, to apply insights from cutting-edge economic concepts and frameworks to craft profitable business strategies that contribute to ecological sustainability and social fairness.
a) Apply advanced microeconomic concepts and frameworks to analyse markets and businesses.
b) Integrate economic and financial frameworks to formulate evidence-based arguments and strategies that inform business and economic management decisions.
c) Critique the strategies and operations of businesses, including their interactions with other businesses, governments and society, and formulate improvements.
d) Evaluate and communicate ideas about the financial system, international trade, and the issues of social and ecological sustainability in business.
e) Apply advanced macroeconomic analytical skills to evaluate economies and their effects on business and investment decisions.
