Note: Both A and B code subject versions are displayed as they are equivalent in content, assessments and learning outcomes. As ICMS courses are reaccredited, the subject is updated to a B-code suffix. Currently, students studying a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business (Sports Management), Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship and Innovation), Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Bachelor of Business (International Tourism), and Bachelor of Hospitality Management will be enrolled in BUS101B. All other courses with this subject will complete BUS101A.

In order to be a successful student at ICMS and to develop your career skills ready for work, it is essential to understand and integrate a range of tertiary tools and skills that you can use to demonstrate your growing academic ability and career readiness.
This subject takes a holistic approach in supporting you on your pathway to success. It focuses on supporting your smooth transition into the College and developing your academic skills and performance, so you can maximise success in your chosen program. Through engaging classroom activities, you’ll get to test out your growing informational literacy and interpersonal skills; using them to clearly communicate to a given audience both orally and in writing. Towards the end of the subject, you’ll focus on what lies ahead; developing an employability toolkit which will help you enter and succeed in the professional workplace.
BUS101B
Achieving academic and professional success requires students to develop a broad suite of capabilities that enhance both their academic skills and readiness for contemporary workplaces. This subject adopts a holistic, student-centred and future-focused approach to supporting a smooth transition into tertiary education, while laying the foundation for lifelong learning, career adaptability and professional development. In addition, the subject introduces students to experiential learning, positioning this as a key pedagogical feature of the curriculum.
Students will be guided through the development of essential academic competencies, including basic research skills, information literacy, and effective communication within the context of higher education. Through interactive and applied learning experiences, they will refine their digital fluency and interpersonal skills, enabling them to communicate with clarity and confidence across diverse audiences and formats.
As the subject progresses, students will begin to explore their professional aspirations and career pathways. They will engage in reflective practice and career planning, culminating in the creation of a personalised employability toolkit and digital portfolio designed to support their entry into the workforce and long-term professional success.
