Subject Aim:

This course will provide students with an understanding of career planning and development and how that applies to the individual. To develop skills in researching employers and industries, job sourcing, interview techniques and networking strategies. Development of a career plan that enhances employability, the ability to apply self-assessment, decision making and negotiating career transitions. Identify contextual factors that influence work and career changes. Development of written and oral communication skills in a professional work environment.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explain the prominent theories, models, and empirical research related to career planning and management.
  2. Identify your strengths and growth areas and develop practical strategies how this information can be applied in managing your own career development.
  3. Apply the self-assessment process as a lifelong career management tool.
  4. Prepare a written Foundation Self-Assessment and Career Scope document that will serve as a 5 to 10-year career planning device that you can continually update.
  5. Differentiate and apply the various techniques (i.e., job search strategies, interview strategies, salary negotiation techniques, etc.) utilised for successful career entry and lifelong career management.
  6. Identify factors influencing employees and their careers.
