Subject Rationale:

MGT303A

Understanding and developing a strong, positive corporate culture is essential in addressing complex business challenges, maximising organisational performance, and enhancing the value of an organisation.

In this subject, culture is explored as a core element of business, management, and leadership. The subject will equip students with a deep understanding of how culture is formed, the ways in which it can be measured and an appreciation for when culture change might be required.

By carrying out a leadership, values, goals and interest self-analysis, students explore the impact of leadership on organisational culture and performance, anticipating ways in which their leadership approach might impact the culture of organisations they are involved in. Moreover, students explore the impact organisational culture has on both team and individual performance and development.

MGT303B

Understanding and developing a strong, positive corporate culture is essential in addressing complex business challenges, maximising organisational performance, and enhancing the long-term value of an organisation.

In this subject, culture is explored as a core element of business, management, and leadership. The subject will equip students with a deep understanding of how culture is formed, the ways in which it can be measured, and an appreciation for when culture change might be required.

Students will engage with theoretical perspectives that explain how organisational culture is formed, maintained, and changed, and how both visible and invisible elements influence leadership effectiveness and strategic alignment. They will also examine how culture interacts with adaptive strategy, business model innovation, and stakeholder engagement to ensure organisations remain resilient and competitive in dynamic environments.

Through psychometric self-assessment tools, students will assess their values and motivational drivers, linking theory to practice in aligning culture with leadership and strategy.
