Note: Both A and B code subject versions are displayed as they are approved equivalent in content, assessments and learning outcomes. As ICMS courses are reaccredited, the subject is updated to a B-code suffix. Students studying a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business (Sports Management), Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship and Innovation), Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Bachelor of Business (International Tourism), Bachelor of Hospitality Management, and Bachelor of Event Management will be enrolled in B-code subjects in 2027. Students enrolled in all other courses at ICMS will complete the equivalent A-code subject. This arrangement applies to the nested diploma qualifications of these courses also.

Subject Rationale:

EVT201A

This subject introduces students to the broad event planning principles and project management skills. It aims to engage students in the hands-on planning of a chosen event concept, and the use of event industry tools to plan their chosen event.

Students will also learn how to interpret an event brief and demonstrate their planning skills for a real event.

EVT102B

This subject introduces students to the foundational principles and practices of event planning, with a focus on the structured processes, documentation, and industry-standard tools used to plan events effectively and safely across a range of event contexts. It provides students with an understanding of how events are planned in practice, from initial briefing through to preparation for delivery.

Students develop practical planning capabilities by interpreting event briefs and applying established planning frameworks to prepare core event documentation, including timelines, budgets, site considerations, and service requirements. The subject emphasises procedural accuracy, coordination, and attention to detail, reflecting contemporary industry expectations for entry-level event planning roles.

Through applied learning activities and assessment-based tasks, students engage with authentic planning scenarios that support the development of professional skills and confidence. The subject establishes a strong foundation for further study in event management and prepares students for supervised participation in event delivery environments.
