Subject Rationale:

EVT301A

Students completing a degree in events are passionate about the design and staging of events. While these are important skills to learn, often a well-designed event fails to eventuate because of issues relating to finances and/or problems with sponsorships and partnerships.

This subject introduces students to the finance aspects of event management and the skills in sourcing, managing and working with sponsors and partners.

The subject explores various avenues of funds available to event organisers as well as the important role sponsors and partners play in successful events. Students will also learn practical skills in building an event budget as well as devising a sponsorship proposal.

EVT301B

Events operate within complex financial and partnership environments, where sound financial planning and strategically aligned sponsorships are critical to event viability, sustainability, and long-term impact. Beyond creative design and delivery, event professionals must be able to secure, allocate, and justify financial resources while establishing ethical and mutually beneficial relationships with sponsors and partners.

This subject introduces students to the financial dimensions of event management, with a focus on budgeting, funding sources, and the strategic role of sponsorship and partnerships in supporting event delivery. Students examine a range of financial models and sponsorship structures commonly used in the events industry, alongside key considerations in identifying, engaging, and managing sponsor relationships.

Through applied learning activities, students develop practical skills in constructing event budgets and preparing sponsorship proposals that align event objectives with sponsor goals. The subject emphasises informed financial decision-making, accountability, and ethical practice, preparing students to manage event finances and sponsorship arrangements within contemporary professional event environments.
