Subject Rationale:

The use of technology is no longer optional in the events industry – it’s fundamental. Events that were once managed manually are now efficiently supported by event management platforms, interactive onsite and virtual tools, and AI-driven solutions that streamline operations and elevate the attendee experience.

From initial conception to post-event evaluation, digital innovation has reshaped the industry over the past decade, and this transformation continues to accelerate.

This subject explores a wide range of event technology applications within event management, equipping students with a critical understanding of how technology adoption and innovation support modern event experiences and contribute to sustainable, future-ready event organisations.

Students will develop practical knowledge and applied skills in evaluating and implementing event technologies across contemporary event contexts. The subject develops digital literacy, critical analysis, and strategic decision-making capabilities related to event technology applications, virtual and hybrid event delivery, and innovation within event organisations. Ethical and operational considerations associated with event technologies, including data privacy, cybersecurity, accessibility, and responsible technology use, are also introduced.

Learning Outcomes:

a) Analyse current event technology trends and applications, including the use and evaluation of digital tools and data in the events industry
b) Assess the benefits and limitations of virtual and hybrid event formats.
c) Evaluate the opportunities and limitations of implementing event planning and delivery technologies within event organisations.
d) Apply current regulations to event production
e) Design appropriate digital transformation and/or innovation strategies for sustained commercial success of an event.
