As ICMS courses are reaccredited, the subject is updated to a B-code suffix. Students studying a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business (Sports Management), Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship and Innovation), Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Bachelor of Business (International Tourism) and Bachelor of Hospitality Management will be enrolled in BUS304B in 2027. Students enrolled in all other courses at ICMS with this subject will complete BUS304A. This arrangement applies to the nested Diploma qualifications of these courses also.

Subject Rationale:

BUS304A

This course guides students through fundamental project management concepts and behavioural skills needed to successfully launch, lead, and realise benefits from projects in organisations.

Successful project managers prioritise their resources, schedules, risks, and scope to produce a desired outcome. In this course, students explore project management with a practical, hands-on approach through undertaking a simulation project.

Special attention is given to critical success factors required to overcome resistance to change. Causes of project failure and how to mitigate risks through proper planning in the early phases of a new initiative will also be reviewed.

BUS304B

Project management skills apply across disciplines and industries, supporting the effective resolution of complex problems in fields such as IT, finance, engineering, tourism and event management. Successful project managers strategically manage resources, schedules, risks and scope to achieve desired outcomes.

This subject equips students with essential project management concepts and behavioural competencies required to initiate, lead, and deliver successful projects within organisations. Through a practical, hands-on approach, students will engage in a simulation project, working collaboratively in teams to apply key project management knowledge areas. The subject also encourages reflection on individual and collective contributions to overall project performance and outcomes.
