Subject Aim:

The cruise industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors of global tourism, offering unique experiences and generating significant economic contributions to destinations worldwide. As cruise lines expand operations, the industry faces complex challenges, including sustainability, regulatory requirements, workforce management, and destination impacts. Understanding these dynamics is essential for professionals seeking to navigate and influence the future of cruise tourism.

This subject examines the cruise industry from both business and consumer perspectives, exploring its operational structures, economic and socio-cultural significance, and environmental responsibilities. Students will engage in field-based learning, reflective exercises, and critical discussions to assess how cruise tourism balances economic benefits with sustainability concerns. Through hands-on research and industry-focused assessments, students will develop the analytical skills required to evaluate trends, operational strategies, and stakeholder relationships within this evolving sector.

Study Tour Included

Students who choose this subject as an elective may be eligible to go on a practical study tour aboard a major international cruise line (dependent on interest). Through this experience, they will receive first-hand exposure to the exciting world of cruise ship travel. Please note, the cost of the study tour is additional to tuition fees.
