Qualifications completed in an English medium

Secondary or tertiary level qualifications completed in English from the following countries are acceptable for undergraduate course entry only:

The following are acceptable forms of English proficiency for undergraduate and postgraduate study:

• Undertaking tertiary level studies (University or VET), of at least one year’s duration, within Australia in the last five years.
• Undertaking study, of at least one year’s duration, within a tertiary level program, at an approved institution where the language of instruction is English, undertaken within the last five years.
• A satisfactory score in the English Assessment administered by the institution indicating that no further English instruction is required to meet the entry requirements of the intended course of study.

The following are acceptable forms of English proficiency for undergraduate study only:

• Completion of the Foundation Program with a Pass in both English subjects

English language proficiency assessments must be completed no longer than two (2) years prior to commencement.

Applicants who do not require an IELTS or TOEFL score for their student visa, can alternatively make an appointment to sit the Cambridge English Placement Test, subject to availability. To arrange an appointment please contact the recruitment department via [email protected]

Have you passed equivalent subjects elsewhere?

Referred to as ‘recognition of prior learning (RPL)’, ‘credit transfers’, or ‘advanced standing’, applicants who can demonstrate successful completion of equivalent subjects at a recognised institution may be eligible for credit towards study at ICMS. (Note: exemptions are only granted for subjects studied at diploma or undergraduate level.)

Similarly, applicants who can demonstrate competence attained through formal training, work experience and/or life experience may also be eligible for advanced standing in an ICMS course.

ICMS encourages lifelong learning and provides the opportunity to have students’ previous learning recognised for advanced standing in their course of study. The Institution is committed to ensuring fair, transparent and flexible advanced standing arrangements in order to award credit for prior learning while maintaining its commitment to ensure the integrity of learning outcomes. ICMS recognises the following forms of prior learning:

• Formal learning is learning undertaken through a structured program of learning and assessment that leads to the full or partial attainment of a recognised Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification.
• Informal learning is learning gained through work-related, social, family, hobby or leisure activities and experiences. Unlike ‘formal’ and ‘non-formal’ learning, ‘informal learning’ is not organised or externally structured in terms of objectives, time or learning support.
• Non-formal learning is learning that is undertaken through a structured program of learning but does not lead to a formally recognised qualification.
