Subject Aim:

This subject aims to prepare students to compete and thrive in the world of new media that will await them in their careers. Students will learn about the development, impact and future of communications media; the theme being that these technologies are converging to create a new communications environment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the concept and power of the global information society and its economic, political and social implications
  • Understand the historical process and effects of global and local media convergence and be a critical consumer of media
  • Understand and be critically aware of the role and effects of communications media on individuals, social institutions and societies
  • Understand and apply theoretical models to media analysis.
