Event Management specialist joins ICMS academic faculty

November 3, 2022

Event Management specialist Janene Wardrop has joined the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) academic faculty in the award-winning higher education institute’s Event Management department.

Wardrop has extensive current experience in the events industry in Australia. As a lecturer and course administrator, she will share contemporary event management knowledge and practical skills with ICMS students hoping to carve professional careers in this dynamic sector.

“My role at ICMS is to work closely with the event students in all areas. I am very excited to give them opportunities to get experience working in industry through them volunteering at many different events throughout the year,” Wardrop said.

“I am also reviewing the event management course to ensure it is current and relevant to what industry is looking for in ICMS graduates.”

Industry Expert with Experience to Share

Relevant industry experience enables Wardrop to share current trends and corporate insight with event management students.

After years in the events industry in various roles, such as Event and Community Experiences Director at Torrens University Australia and Media Design School, Wardrop is currently an event specialist at Ascot Event Management.

The company draws on strong industry connections to offer full service packages or support services in the conference and event sector across Australia.

In a voluntary capacity, she holds the position of Meetings & Events Australia NSW Branch Committee Vice Chair, the regional chapter of a national non-profit organisation representing the largest community of businesses and individuals across the Australian events industry.

The Covid-19 global pandemic shook the foundations of the event management industry worldwide and students need to know how to navigate the shift in landscape. How events are managed has changed, and it is crucial to have faculty immersed in the industry, who have been through the period of uncertainty, and who are looking forward to the recovery of the sector.

“Covid has meant a huge change in the industry and events teams need to understand virtual, live streaming and hybrid events as well as sustainability, and a strong understanding of event technology including software,” Wardrop said.

Training up the next generation

“I am super excited to be here and help influence and train the next generation of event managers,” Wardrop said.

ICMS, located in Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW, and in the city of Sydney, offers a Bachelor of Event Management, and Master of Event Management and a Graduate Certificate in Event Management among other degrees across a wide range of specialisations.

Over the years, ICMS has cemented its reputation for producing excellent event management graduates, ranking #1 for Event Management and Hospitality Management in Australia (based on graduate employability) and #1 for Bachelor of Event Management and Bachelor of Hospitality Management in Australia (based on longest continuous industry placement, student professionalism, work ready students and industry training customer care)*.
