Accounting Internship Will Secure Career

Accounting Internship Will Secure Career

March 19, 2020

International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) student Alex Salikin hopes to use the valuable industry training experience he is taking away from his placement at MMMigration to secure his career in the accounting profession.

Salikin is currently studying an ICMS Bachelor of Business Management (Accounting) degree at the ICMS campus located in Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW. He has been placed as an accounting intern during his Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects – which are built into every degree offered at ICMS.

“For my industry training, I am an accounting intern in MMMigration, a migration agent company. I hope that with the accounting experience I’m gathering from industry training I will be able secure my career as an accountant. Working in the industry, while still a student, has allowed me to get into the routine of working as an accountant, and this has also helped boost my confidence in pursuing my career,” Salikin said.

Industry training has allowed Salikin to extend his knowledge of the accounting industry as he literally practices what he has learned in academic lectures.

“My main role in MMMigration consists of analysing, assessing and managing the financial health of the business. This includes the reconciliation of invoices for any discrepancies, for example. I also have a role in managing MMMigration’s Accounts Receivables and updating incoming payments on a weekly basis.”

It was this practical experience that attracted Salikin, from Indonesia, to study at ICMS. He was also pleased by the fact that the ICMS BBM (Accounting) degree has been approved for professional accreditation by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (Chartered Accountants ANZ). What the accreditation means for ICMS students is that they enjoy automatic exemptions from CPA foundation programs – saving students the cost and time for six subjects – as well as eligibility to register as associate members of CPA upon graduation. A further advantage for students is that industry training during the ICMS Bachelor of Business Management (Accounting) counts towards full accreditation with CPA.

“There were definite aspects in regard to ICMS’s learning process that has helped me make my decision to study at this institution. First and foremost, the industry training gained a lot of my attention, as it allowed me to gain experience in the accounting field while still a student. This is a crucial factor for young aspiring accountants, such as me, who want to enter the accounting field,” he said.

ICMS is a career-focused higher education institution that offers a wide range of post-graduate and undergraduate degrees and diplomas such as the Bachelor of Business Management (Accounting) Salikin is studying. ICMS is aligned with industry partners from across the spectrum of degrees offered, meaning Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is meaningful to the student with regards to the field in which they would want to pursue a career.

“I believe that graduating with a bachelor’s degree from ICMS will help sharpen my knowledge of the industry and provide me with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve success in my accounting career.”
