ICMS students who enrol in Cruise Management as a level 300 elective subject in Trimester 1, 2026, will get to take their studies offshore with the launch of our 10-day Cruise Management Study Tour.
Students will embark on a 10-day (9-night) voyage, departing from Sydney’s Circular Quay aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas — one of the world’s most innovative mega ships. They will visit the islands of Vanuatu and New Caledonia, conducting hands-on research and reflective learning tasks while experiencing the realities of cruise tourism.
This immersive subject combines classroom learning with first-hand industry experience. Through workshops held both on campus and at sea, students will explore how cruise operators balance business performance with sustainability, workforce management, regulatory challenges, and destination impacts.
“This subject is designed to take learning beyond the classroom,” says Dr Johnnel Smith, ICMS Senior Program Manager (Tourism and Hospitality). “Students won’t just study cruise tourism — they’ll experience it from the inside, gaining insights into operations, customer experience, and the complex logistics that drive one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors of global tourism.”
