International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) and Guizhou University of Commerce (GZUC) have officially launched the GZUC–ICMS United College in China.
Announced on 26 November, this joint institute offers students access to globally recognised degrees and marks a significant step in international education.
The partnership between ICMS and GZUC began in 2019. Over the years, it has built a strong foundation for GZUC–ICMS United College, which is expected to become a model for international education.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by key executive leaders from ICMS, who flew to China to operationalise the partnership and witness this historic moment.
The event featured the presentation of a commemorative plaque for the new college, symbolising the collaboration between the two institutions. ICMS and GZUC exchanged mementos, emphasising their partnership.
ICMS founder Darryl Courtney-O’Connor and several key ICMS executives visited China to meet with Dr Lu Yongzheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee and Minister of Publicity; Dr Chen Yunkun, Director-General of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education; and Xiao Xiaohong, President of GZUC, in connection with the launch celebration.
“This college offers much more than academics; it is focused on equipping students to thrive internationally through innovation, leadership, and a sense of responsibility,” he remarked.
During the ceremony, Minister Lu praised the partnership.
“This joint institute reflects the expanding collaboration between China and Australia in higher education. It will provide students with access to world-class learning opportunities and benefit local development,” he said.
ICMS President and Managing Director Rowan Courtney-O’Connor connected the project to Australia’s broader education goals.
“The Australian Strategy for International Education 2021–2030 encourages partnerships like this. It’s about creating global opportunities for students and strengthening international ties,” he said.
“By expanding the delivery of Australian qualifications through innovative models like the GZUC–ICMS United College, we’re not only building academic excellence but also broadening the global reach of Australian education.
“This collaboration shows how institutions can work together to prepare students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in an interconnected world.”
