ICMS COO in Dance Spectacular for Cancer Council NSW Fundraiser

ICMS COO in Dance Spectacular for Cancer Council NSW Fundraiser

September 12, 2022

ICMS Chief Operating Officer Cameron Stewart, aka On-Campus Dad, is dipping his toe into the toe tapping world of dance, all for a good cause.

He has signed up for the challenge of Cancer Council NSW fundraiser Stars of the Beaches and will perform a Broadway number with his dance partner at a glittering gala in the near future.

It’s a far cry from his day job: being in charge of campus facilities, operations and external commercial aspects of ICMS as well as being on the Manly Business Chamber Executive Committee and pursuing a part-time MBA.

“Being part of a competition like this was once totally out of the question for me. After a massive accident in 2018, I was told I may never walk again, let alone dance, play tennis, surf, ride my motorbike or skateboard again. It took about two years, but I proved the surgeon wrong and I’m back to enjoying being active,” Cameron said.

“Entering a dance competition is way out of my comfort zone. I have never really danced other than rocking some cool ‘80s moves, but am looking forward to the challenge of Stars of the Beaches, especially as it’s for a great cause that has special meaning to me, personally.”

Dancing for a worthy cause

STARS is a community-driven, dance gala event. Every year, local business owners and personalities light up the dance floor to raise vital funds for Cancer Council NSW’s world-class research, prevention, advocacy, and information and support.

Over $160 000 has been raised so far, with expectations high that 2022 will be the best year yet. Over $2.8million has been raised from the Stars events around NSW over the past three years.

Cameron’s personal fundraising target is $5000. The cause of cancer funding and research is especially close to his heart having lost his mother, two uncles, a grandmother and grandfather to cancer.

He has been assigned Broadway as his dance genre, and will be putting in rehearsal time with dance partner, Katherine Ward, to have his number on point by the time he has to go on stage at the gala event held at the Manly Pacific Hotel, date to be confirmed.

Cameron has ICMS’ full support

ICMS is behind Cameron all the way and will be cheering him on throughout rehearsals and on the big night.

Cancer Council NSW is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission. Prizes will be awarded for Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice and Highest Fundraiser.

With 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, the money raised from this event will go towards Cancer Council NSW and their world-class cancer research, prevention programs, advocacy, and support services to help those affected by cancer at every point in their journey.
