ICMS Celebrates 25 Years

ICMS Celebrates 25 Years

May 26, 2021

This year the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) celebrates 25 years of career-focused higher education excellence.

A quarter of a century is just the beginning of ICMS’ journey towards cementing its role as Australia’s leader in career-focused education. Building on a solid reputation for academic excellence combined with a pioneering experiential philosophy, ICMS’ future looks solid in a shifting higher education landscape.

“We are so grateful to the students, staff and community who have come through our doors and been a part of our ICMS history over the past twenty-five years. Since our first intake in May 1996, we have built a community of supportive professionals doing amazing work around the world. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction to hear ICMS alumni express their gratitude for our supportive, flexible, ‘mentoring’ approach as the means with which they have achieved their dreams and career goals,” said Darryl Courtney-O’Connor AM, chairman and founder of ICMS.

ICMS’ history over the past 25 years

In 1996, ICMS was established under the name ‘International College of Tourism and Hotel Management’ (ICTHM). The rebranding in 2006 to ICMS reflected the accreditation of the college as a Higher Education Institute and led the way to ICMS’ accreditation to deliver five additional bachelor degrees in 2008. Students were then able to graduate with degrees in business, events, international tourism, sports and property management.

Over the years, ICMS has been accredited to deliver Study Abroad programs (2010) and create its own bachelor degrees (2011). In 2013 ICMS established Aspire Institute to deliver Diplomas, Foundation and English Language Programs, and in the same year ICMS was accredited to deliver Postgraduate qualifications. In 2015 ICMS was re-accredited by the Tertiary Education and Quality Assurance Agency (TEQSA) and in 2018 was accredited to deliver seven new Diploma, Bachelor and Master qualifications. In 2021 ICMS was the first in Australia to receive the government’s higher education ‘Short Course’ program approval. A focus on graduate capabilities – rather than rote or sterile learning – is a key feature of ICMS’ education that sets students up for a fulfilling career as confident leaders in the industry of their choice.

How ICMS is celebrating 25 years

To celebrate ICMS’ 25 year milestone, a special program of events has been planned, including a VIP lunch and a charity fundraiser. A new emblem has been designed, incorporating elements of the Touraust Corporation in a nod to ICMS’ roots, and this will be displayed on the website and  marketing collateral throughout the birthday year.
