ICMS Educator Wins National MEA Award

ICMS Educator Wins National MEA Award

November 24, 2025

ICMS Program Manager (Events) Janene Wardrop has been named the 2025 Event Educator of the Year in the last-ever Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) Awards.

MEA, formerly a leading industry association, ceased operations in March 2025. The awards were judged prior to its closure, with results only recently announced, providing one final acknowledgment of outstanding industry leaders.

This recognition marks a significant milestone both for Janene and for ICMS, which has long set the benchmark for event management education in Australia.

The national honour reinforces ICMS’s reputation for excellence and leadership within the events industry, while also highlighting the genuine impact of its hands-on, industry-connected degrees.

Raising the Bar for Event Education

This latest accolade adds to an impressive list of achievements for Janene.

She received the Best Event Management Trainer award at the 2024 Tourism Training Australia Awards and was celebrated as the ‘Mentor with the Most’ at The Vibes Awards in Sydney last year.

These awards reflect her dedication to mentoring and guiding students, along with the strong culture of support and real-world preparation that characterises ICMS event programs.

Industry Leadership in Action

With over 20 years of experience in the events sector, Janene brings a depth of expertise to the classroom. Alongside her role as Program Manager for Events at ICMS, she leads her own business, Ascot Event Collective, and is acknowledged as a Gen Z Thought Leader.

Her leadership allows ICMS students to access the latest industry trends, develop practical skills, and build valuable professional connections, providing graduates with a distinct advantage as they begin their careers.

Real-World Learning for Students

Janene’s continuing involvement in the industry results in dynamic and practical learning experiences. She frequently invites engaging guest speakers and organises industry-focused field trips for students.

ICMS students benefit by combining theoretical knowledge with practical networking opportunities and industry insight, creating a strong foundation for future success in the events field.

Celebrating ICMS Excellence

This national award highlights the quality of ICMS educators and the innovative approach underpinning the event management degrees on offer.

The recognition affirms the institution’s ongoing commitment to student achievement through mentorship, practical training, and close industry collaboration, further cementing ICMS as a leader in event management education.
