ICMS graduate employment rate tops Australia’s best ranked Unis in 2020

March 24, 2021

The International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), a higher education institution continues to punch above its weight with a graduate employment rate that tops Australia’s best ranked universities.

ICMS’ graduate employment rate of 73.9% is better than both Australian National University (ANU) at 71.3% and the University of Melbourne, measured at 61.1%.

ANU was ranked the top Australian University in the 2021 QS World University Rankings Survey*, and the University of Melbourne was the top ranked Australian university in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021**. Whilst ICMS was not part of either of the above ranking systems, the higher education institution can be compared like for like in terms of graduates with universities and colleges across the country in the QILT survey, which is funded by the Australian government.

The ICMS graduate employment rate is higher than that of both of these top-ranked public universities.

“It’s an honour for ICMS to be ranked by QILT alongside Australian universities that have been rated at the highest level by prestigious global ranking systems, and to see evidence in areas in which we excel, such as graduate employability,” ICMS CEO Rowan Courtney-O’Connor said.

Graduate employability refers to the percentage of students who find work after their studies. ICMS, with campuses in Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW and in the city of Sydney, offers a career-focused higher education that virtually ensures students are employed before they graduate thanks to the career-focused ICMS eco-system which includes a mandatory internships built into each degree and course.

Our graduates are prepared for their selected Industry

With over 1000 industry partners, the internships allow students to widen their professional network, build their resume and impress future employers while they are still studying.

“It is interesting to compare our graduate employment rate alongside these Australian universities, in a national survey of which we are all a part, as a means to illustrate how ICMS, a higher education institution punches above its weight in the national higher education landscape,” Courtney-O’Connor said.

“We believe our strong focus on industry training as a key component of our academic degrees and courses pays off for our graduates as they find their footing in their chosen career sooner than students from these leading universities and colleges.”

Where do graduate employment rate statistics come from?

The graduate employment rate percentages are provided in the latest graduate statistics from the national Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) 2020 Survey.

What is the QILT definition of graduate employment rate?

Full-time employment is defined by QILT as the proportion of graduates who were employed full-time four months after completing their course, as a percentage of those who were available for full-time employment.

Full-time employment relates to graduates employed for 35 hours or more per week. Overall employment relates to graduates employed for one or more hours per week.

Employment outcomes data on the QILT website includes responses from Australian resident graduates only. Data is displayed separately for graduates from undergraduate and postgraduate coursework level degrees***.

Why is the graduate employment rate at ICMS so high?

The ICMS graduate employment rate remains consistently high due to the ICMS personalised educational experience which prepares graduates for professional success. How does ICMS prepare graduates for employment?

  • Work Integrated Learning, also known as an Industry Training or an Internship, is included as part of every ICMS undergraduate and postgraduate degree.
  • Degrees have been designed in conjunction with industry, so students develop skills their future employers really need.
  • Active learning means students do work-relevant assessments – as they would in the real world.
  • From the start, students will develop a career mindset through professional attire; CV writing and interview skills; mentoring; and access to the ICMS Student Success Centre.
