ICMS Internship Jumpstarts Career at Lakeba

June 8, 2017

ICMS Masters student Marcelo Schmidt Machado is racing up the corporate ladder – even before he has finished his studies.

Marcelo recently so impressed the employers at Lakeba in Manly that he has been promoted. He is in his first semester of his Master in Management & Organisations at ICMS, and had been working at Lakeba on a casual basis through Industry Training’s recommendation and connections.

Lakeba is a leading digital solutions company, operating globally with employees worldwide. It has a base in Manly, which is where Marcelo’s strengths as an intern were recognised and rewarded. (https://lakeba.com/)

Marcelo is originally from Porto Alegre, Brazil. After achieving an undergraduate Law degree and MBA from universities in Brazil, he decided to head over to Australia to study further at ICMS.

“The two main reasons why I decided to study at ICMS was the integration with the working industry and the commitment to great education,” he said.

“Since I’m from overseas, I needed to find an environment where I could meet people available to help me to find relevant positions in the Australian workplace.”

The structure of the ICMS Masters in Management & Organisations course and subjects was also a major drawcard, and Marcelo has been able to apply some of the theories learned in class with his current role.

“ICMS classes are helping me to extract better outcomes when it comes to my daily challenges,” he said.

He will continue with his studies at ICMS while managing his role at Lakeba, and aims to complete his Masters by the end of next year.

“I’m a learning enthusiast and there is always room for education in my life. If I want to keep growing as a person and as a professional, I need to keep learning and improving my general understandings of life and business. Having a Masters at ICMS is one of my greatest goals to achieve.”

He paid tribute to the environment at ICMS for the role is played in getting him to where he is today.

“ICMS is like an “exclusive club”, where everybody knows you by the name and where you learn and improve as a professional and as a person. It’s also a great place to interact with a lot of interesting people.”

And to other ICMS students wanting to know his secret to success?

“Get prepared, trust in yourself, seek advice at ICMS Industry Training, be resilient and don’t wait, act! In other words, think strategically and just do it.”
